North Yorkshire Council’s new campaign Keep North Yorkshire Clean is encouraging
visitors and residents to dispose of their rubbish responsibly. The council is working with
parish and town councils to display new weatherproof anti-littering posters in areas where
litter is an issue. The posters will also be going up in laybys, green spaces and other areas
to remind people to do the right thing - take their rubbish home or put it in the bin. The
campaign is aimed at generating a debate about the issue of littering and the impact it has
on communities. It features common terms using the Yorkshire dialect including ‘gerrit in’t
bin’, ‘take yer litter home, ta’ ‘keep t’ place spick and span, ta’ and ‘keep t’ place clean as a
whistle ta’. Road users will also be reminded not to litter from vehicles as the campaign
includes anti-littering messages on car parking tickets, on petrol pump nozzles, at services
stations and on buses operating across North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Local Access Forum are currently recruiting new members. People with a passion for the countryside and an interest in exploring their neighbourhoods are invited to apply.

The Forum is an independent body that advises North Yorkshire Council, and other relevant bodies, on how people can make the most of opportunities for getting out and about in the great outdoors.  It brings together representatives of land managers, users and other relevant fields or areas of interest to watch over and help shape the future of footpaths, bridleways, byways, open access land and other green spaces within North Yorkshire outside of the boundaries of the two National Parks.

To ensure the Forum represents the varying aspects of ‘access’ both to the countryside and in urban areas, applicants are sought who are interested in any of the following:

·          Walking and Rambling

·          Land Owners, Managers and Farming

·          Running and/or Orienteering

Jo Coles, York & North Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime said:

“Serious violence has a devastating impact on victims, their families and communities and we’re committed to working with partners across York and North Yorkshire to look for solutions and improved ways of working.

“To help us with that work we’re asking anyone who’s been affected by violence, in any way, to take part in this really important survey.

“Thank you to all those who take part who will be supporting our work to keep York and North Yorkshire as one of the safest places to live, work and visit.”

Under the Serious Violence Duty introduced in January 2023, the York and North Yorkshire Office for Policing, Fire, Crime and Commissioning (OPFCC), part of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, has a duty to convene partners including North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Probation services, North Yorkshire Council, City of York Council and the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to develop a strategy around Serious Violence.

To support the development of this strategy, the Office for Policing, Fire, Crime and Commissioning, and partners, welcome views from members of the public on the impact Serious Violence has on communities and how to address this in their local area.
